Empire Interpreting is excited to announce that our latest satellite office is now up and running! Located in North Carolina, “EIS-Charlotte” looks to address the communication needs of one of the fastest growing business cities in the U.S.  

While the EIS-Charlotte office was initially intended to solely address the document translation needs of its diverse surroundings, we have already received requests for both Sign and Spoken language interpreters. As such, we are currently scouting the North Carolina area for interpreters and would encourage them to fill out one of our Subcontractor packets.  

Heading up our newest office will be Trevor Slater. Although he currently resides in Charlotte, Trevor has spent time working out of our New York offices and serving as a long distance consultant.  While Trevor is our newest full time staff member, he brings a unique perspective on the interpreting industry having been born Deaf and gaining his ability to hear as a young child. We look forward to utilizing Trevor’s expertise in both the Deaf experience and the Charlotte business landscape as we continue our expansion. Welcome Trevor!   

Empire Interpreting is happy to announce that our growth has given us the opportunity to expand our Syracuse office. While we will remain in the State Tower Building, our satellite office will be moved into a larger suite to accommodate our increased staff and growing business demands. Despite moving our offices, we will maintain our current Syracuse mailing address and Suite number. Our new office space will open May 1st. Thanks to everyone who has made this expansion possible! 

 EIS President, Theresa Slater, will be presented with the ‘Ann Michel’ entrepreneur award on April 1st at this year’s annual WISE Conference. The ceremony will take place in the Nicholas J. Moffa Convention Center at the Syracuse Oncenter. This award is given annually to a business woman whos entreprenueurial spirit is shown in both her attitude, actions and growth of her business .       In response to feedback from the Deaf community Empire Interpreting has created business cards specifically designed for our Deaf consumers. This business card gives EIS’s contact information on the front and a brief summary about the card holder on the back.

On Sunday, February 3rd, one of EIS’s Interpreters wrote into the Syracuse Post-Standard concerning the inclusion of Theresa Slater into the bi-weekly column “Ask the Entrepreneur”. Below is the letter as it appeared in the paper and the response from The Post-Standard Editor.

What a  coup for The Post-Standard to have enlisted the invaluable input of Theresa Slater, founder of Empire Interpreting Service (EIS), as a columnist for “Ask the Entrepreneurs” in 2008.

I am fortunate enough to be sub-contracted through EIS and have firsthand knowledge of Theresa’s business acumen. She has the uncanny ability to recognize and focus on one’s strengths while at the same time inspiring, motivating and encouraging continued professional development.

But her  expertise goes beyond the typical vested interest in others that a business owner has. Theresa also has a genuine concern for and is devoted to the individual success and accomplishments of her associates, whether they be staff, subcontractors or consumers.

In addition to the feature article detailing the rise of EIS, Slater’s new bi-weekly Column, “Ask the Entrepreneur”, premiered. Every other Tuesday Theresa will be part of a panel which will discuss issues of importance to new business owners and entrepreneurs.
